    HILLEL SUMER UPDATES

    Shalom,

We hope you are enjoying the beginning of June be it with summer school,
work or whatever.  We also want to welcome back those Loyola Hillel
students who went on the first Birthright Trip (though 2 extended their
trip and are still in Israel!)  The next Loyola students leave at the end
    of the week.

Below is information about SHAVUOT/THE GIANT JEWISH FESTIVAL/JOB
OPPORTUNITIES IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY POST COLLEGE

    SHAVUOT

Tonight begins the holiday of Shavuot.  It is a two-day holiday, so this
year it extends into Shabbat and ends Saturday night.  This is the holiday
that celebrates the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people from Mount
Sinai.  This is the time that Moses went up to Mount Sinai and spoke with
G-d.  The word Shavuot means "weeks," and sometimes this holiday is called
the Feast of Weeks.  This is because it is seven weeks from the time of
the Exodus from Egypt (Passover) until Shavuot - 49 days - seven days
    times seven weeks.
