There are three main subject areas for our programs this week - a "not for women only" program for Women's History Month to begin the week, the major university conference "Peacemaking in an Age of Terror," and our Saturday night "retro" party at "Pump It Up" in Glenview. The details for these programs are listed below. There is also a special program for those who are pre-med, and after the program listings - an announcement about a great volunteer opportunity to help with LOYOLA SUNDAY, which is next Sunday, March 25 between 1-3 PM. MONDAY, MARCH 19 - "ROSH CHODESH: A TIME TO CELEBRATE WOMEN" - 1:30 PM - MUNDELEIN CTR. LOUNGE-1ST FLOOR
This is Hillel's special program for Women's History Month and is NOT for women only! Rosh Chodesh is the beginning of each Jewish month and is traditionally a time set aside to honor women. Rosh Chodesh Nisan, the start of the Jewish month of Nisan, begins Monday evening. Nisan in the month in which Passover occurs.
MRS. MIRIAM JAFFE, gifted Jewish educator, will discuss the meaning of Rosh Chodesh and other related topics.
There will be a special lunch served of a variety of dairy and vegetarian wraps and homemade cheesecake. We want to thank the Office of Student Diversity and the Women's History Month Committee for their support for our program.
MONDAY, MARCH 19 - MEDICAL SCHOOL WORKSHOP - 6:30 PM - FINNEGAN AUDITORIUM
Organized by several AED Pre-Health Honor Society students, students who have gone through the medical school admissions process will discuss the steps as well as give their own tips. This event will be in the form of a presentation. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the presentation. This is a perfect opportunity for freshmen, sophomores and juniors to learn more about the MCAT, AMCAS, committee process, medical school interviews and more!
TUESDAY, MARCH 20-THURSDAY, MARCH 22 - "PEACEMAKING IN AN AGE OF TERROR" - MUNDELEIN AUDITORIUM
This major university-wide conference, which begins Tuesday evening, has a vast array of topics and outstanding speakers scheduled. All sessions are in Mundelein Auditorium. There is a request to have everyone register who attends a session - be it student, faculty, staff or visitor. Hillel at Loyola was particularly involved in helping to secure a panelist for the WEDNESDAY MORNING - 9:30-11:45 AM panel discussion "UNDERSTANDING MIDEAST TENSIONS AND HOPES." There are three panelists for that session - Mohammed Abu-Nimer, American University; Abdul Rashied Omar, University of Notre Dame; and Yaacov iram, Bar Ilan University, Israel. The Conference was not intending to bring a scholar from Israel, but when Erwin Epstein, Professor of Education and Hillel Faculty Board Member, informed us about the unique credentials of his colleague - the decision was made to bring Prof. Iram to Chicago.
Professor Yaacov Iram is the UNESCO Chair on Human Rights, Democracy, Peace and International Understanding at Bar Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel. He also holds the Josef Burg Chair in Education for Human Values, Tolerance and Peace at the university.
Although this has not been finalized, hopefully Prof. Iram will be able to come upstairs to the Hillel Living Room for an informal lunch with students after the panel discussion.

"Pump it Up" is an unbelievable inflatable playland, and a great place for adults to party on a Saturday night! You have never seen anything like this!
There's inflatable basketball, volleyball, baseball, obstacle courses, a jousting ring and much more! We have rented out the entire place for a party unlike any other you have been to! We'll have the Oreos and Milk! and hope to see you there!

The Undergraduate Admissions Office has a wonderful opportunity to offer to students on the Hillel listserve. On Sunday, March 25th, over 2500 prospective students and parents coming to visit Loyola for Loyola Sunday. This is our largest event which serves to help admitted students make their final college decision. We need your help in hosting our Student Circles.
These Student Circles run from 1-3 pm and consist of 2-3 Loyola students helping 10-15 prospective students. We talk about student life, do some sort of interactive activity, and provide students with the opportunity to ask questions without their parents around. Not only is this a good way to get your organization names out there, but it also creates a great opportunity for receiving some service hours. You would show up wearing your organization's t-shirts to advertise the existence of your organization on campus.
If you are interested in helping on Loyola Sunday, please contact Amanda Dipman at adipman@luc.edu with your name, email, year at Loyola and major/minor. Please let Amanda know that you learned of this through the Hillel listserve, and please come by Hillel for your hoodie!
So that everyone may be on the same page, volunteers need to attend a meeting on Friday, March 23rd from 4-5 pm in the Galvin Auditorium in the Sullivan Center before Loyola Sunday weekend. We will be distributing packets and we will also have free pizza! If it is not possible to attend the training session, please let Amanda Dipman know.
