"BUILDING THE PEACE, BREAKING THE FAST"

As we begin the New Year 5767, Hillel is proud to be a co-sponsor of a
very special program that in addition to its importance in meaning will
also be an opportunity to taste delicious food from different cultures!

"BUILDING THE PEACE, BREAKING THE FAST"

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 - 6 PM - SIMPSON MULTIPURPOSE ROOM

This Monday, September 25 Hillel, MSA (Muslim Students' Association) and
HSO (Hindu Students Organization) are sponsoring "Building the Peace,
Breaking the Fast," a campus-wide fast for peace with a break-the-fast
meal at 6 PM in the Simpson Multipurpose Room featuring kosher, halal and
vegetarian food.

The inspiration for this fast is the fact that the Jewish and Muslim
communities share a fast day on Monday - the Jewish community the Fast of
Gedalya and the Muslim community the beginning of the month-long Fast of
Ramadan.  The Hindu community has a fast day on Sunday.  These three
organizations ask the Loyola community to join them in this fast and to
gather together to reflect on issues concerning our global community.

At the break-the-fast dinner short reflections will be shared from Hillel,
MSA and HSO as well as from some of the co-sponsors, LAWN (Loyola
Anti-WarNetwork), LSAS (Loyola Students Again Sweatshops), and Turkish
Intercultural Club.  The program will end with a performance by a
Muslim student beatboxer.

There is not another campus in the country that is doing such a
co-sponsored program on the occasion of the joint fast day in the Muslim
and Jewish communities.   This demonstrates another example of the unique
realtionship and interaction of our Muslim, Jewish, Hindu and Christian
communities at Loyola, a relationship in which we all take much pride.

This program was made possible with the support of the Unity in Diversity
Fund.

ONCE AGAIN, HILLEL WANTS TO EXTEND ITS WISHES FOR A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW
YEAR.
