Hillel Next Week

Shalom,

Next week, November 9, is Kristallnacht, Night of Broken Glass, the day in
Holocaust history that commemorates the November 9, 1938 anti-Jewish riots
that destroyed the synagogues, Jewish shops and homes throughout Germany
and Austria.  We have invited a survivor of Kristallnacht to be our guest
and share his story at 4 PM on NOVEMBER 9.  The details follow.

Next week Hillel is sponsoring a program Monday-Friday from special
programs for Hunger Week, the 2nd session of our Latin Dance Class,
Kristallnacht, and on Friday - the final Shabbat dinner of the semester.
The days, times and locations are listed below.  There is also information
about half-price tickets for a Bulls game - the Bulls vs the Celtics on
Monday, December 4.

walk on Sheridan as if you are going to Sullivan Center, after you pass
Mundelein Center and the construction there is a sidewalk going left

his national service, instead of military service, by volunteering at the
Holocaust Memorial Foundation of Illinois as part of the German program
Action Reconciliation Service for Peace.

We will have available on Thursday material about the 60 DAYS for 6
MILLION Project/Remember the Past to Build the Future.  This is a reading

    Yossi and Jagger

Join Russian Hillel for a screening of an amazing Israeli film ' Yossi and Jagger'. For more info

Based on true story, Yossi & Jagger portrays the love affair of two Israeli officers in a remote army base on the Israeli-Lebanese border. They are commanders, they are in love, and they try to find a place of their own in an oppressing and rigid system, which sends them to defend a cause they do not necessarily believe in.

Yossi & Jagger portrays the tragic structure of life of young Israelis today. The film presents an enchanting ensemble of young men and women that were supposed, in this time of their lives, to dance, study and love. Instead, due to the mandatory army service and the complicated situation in the region, they have to devote their most beautiful years to their country, to be soldiers, to kill and get killed. Without a flag-waving or ideological posturing, this film tells the story of young people trying to survive in an impossible world.

    Fwd: Personal Statement Workshop

    Attention Pre-Health Students:

All health professional schools require applicants to submit a Personal
Statement. In fields with national application services like medicine,
committees may read this long before they receive letters of evaluation
and supplemental materials.  With limited opportunity to discuss one's
motivation for a specific care in the health professions, the personal
statement can be crucial to one's candidacy.

The Pre-Health Professions Office will be hosting a workshop to discuss
the do's and don'ts of writing a personal statement:

Monday, November 6, 5:00-6:00 pm, Damen Hall 735
Thursday, November 9, 5:00-6:00 pm, Damen Hall 735

Similar information will be covered in each workshop, thus it is only
    necessary to attend one.

    Don't miss this wonderful opportunity!
