    Caviar and Black Bread...

    Shalom,

Hillel is actually serving a caviar and black bread lunch as part of
one of our special programs this week.

Please check the details below for our program on Organ Donation, the
return of our Latin Dance Class and a special opportunity to visit The
Ark.  Also, as the temperature dips below freezing, it is a very good time
    to order a Hillel Hoodie!

    TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 6 - 1:00 PM - HILLEL - 2ND FLOOR MUNDELEIN

"ORGAN DONATION - A JEWISH PERSPECTIVE" - a discussion led by Sherry and
    Rabbi Eliezer Dimarsky

Sherry Dimarsky is a double lung transplant recipient - a procedure that
saved her life.  She will discuss her experience, and then she and Rabbi
Dimarsky will discuss what Jewish Law says about organ donation.

Besides their incredible story of survival, Sherry and Eliezer Dimarsky
are two remarkable individuals.  Sherry, an attorney, was the founding
director of Shalva, the Jewish community's organization for dealing with
domestic violence.  Rabbi Dimarsky, originally from the FSU, immigrated to
Israel and became a computer scientist.  In Chicago, he has created
Heritage Russian Jewish Congregation.  Former Loyola Hillel student
    leaders were among its founders.

Because of the Dimarsky's visit, we are having a special gourmet Russian
lunch of caviar, Russian black bread and sweet pierogi (a kind of coffee
    cake).

We hope you will join us for this special program and take advantage of
this opportunity to meet the Dimarskys.  Our program is being
co-sponsored by the Loyola chapter of the Students for Organ Donation.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7 - 4-5 PM - COFFEY HALL, MCCORMICK LOUNGE

    "LATIN DANCING RETURNS!!"

A free opportunity to learn Latin Social and Competitive Dancing from
National Dance Finalists Konstantin Garibashvili and Jane Shmelkov.

Because both are pre-med students studying for their MCATs, the class will
only meet twice this semester.  So, take advantage of the class this
WEDNESDAY at 4 PM.  You can bring your friends!

    WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7 - 6:30-8:00 PM - THE ARK - 6450 N. CALIFORNIA

Also this Wednesday is the first session of a unique volunteer initiative
with The Ark, the Rogers Park organization that has been an oasis of help
for the Jewish poor in our city.

THE COMMUNITY FRIEND PROGRAM lets you help make a difference in the life
of an individual who can use your friendship, interest and support.  This
is also an opporunity to learn about the amazing work of The Ark.  The
Community Friend Program will meet for several Wednesday evenings this
semester and will involve students from universities throughout the
    city.

This Wednesday's program is a Tu B'Shevat Seder.  Tu B'Shevat is the New
Year of Trees and occurred this past Shabbat.  In Israel it is currently
warm!  And, Tu B'Shevat celebrates the beginning of the growing season.

One of the beautiful traditions of this holiday is a Tu B'Shevat Seder, a
delicious offering of fruits, nuts and other treats celebrating the
bounties of the land of Israel.

Just go to The Ark at 6:30 PM this Wednesday, and you will be introduced
to the tradition of the Tu B'Shevat seder, and you will also meet the
staff of the ARK, KOACH & USD Hagshama, clients of the ARK and other area
    students.

If  you have any questions about this program, you can contact Patti Ray.
This is a wonderful way to accrue volunteer hours.
