Hillel This Week

Shalom,

Once again, Hillel has planned a very diverse week of programs going from the
difficult subject of Abuse in the Jewish Home to the performance of the
Northwestern University Klezmer Band to another Latin Dance class to an
award-winning Israeli film to Hillel's attendance at the final home game of
the Loyola Ramblers Basketball Team.

We hope to see you sometime during the week!

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 19 - 12:30 PM - HILLEL-MUNDELEIN CENTER, 2ND FLOOR

"SHATTERING SILENCE - Responding to Violence in the Jewish Home"

Debbie Korman, from SHALVA, will be our guest speaker.  SHALVA is the Jewish
community's organization that provides safe homes, counseling, legal aid and
other vital services to Jewish families suffering from domestic abuse.

This is a NOT FOR WOMEN ONLY program, though it is being held on Rosh Chodesh
Adar, the beginning of the Jewish month of Adar - which falls on Sunday and
Monday this year.  Rosh Chodes is the begining of each Jewish month and is
traditionally a time set aside to honor women.  This semester, we are
sponsoring two special Rosh Chodesh programs - and this is the first.

A pizza lunch will be served.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21 - 5:00 PM - DEVON/SHERIDAN BLDG.-6400 N. SHERIDAN

"WILDKATZ KLEZMER BAND CONCERT!"

Wildkatz is the Northwestern University Klezmer Band.  Klemzer is the
traditional Jewish music of Eastern Europe that in modern times has been merged
with contemporary jazz rhythms.

The Devon/Sheridan Residence is the senior citizen building just across the
street from the Lake Shore Campus.  It is across Sheridan Road.  The entrance
is on Devon.  Hillel students volunteer there every Friday afternoon, and once
a semester we organize a party for the residents.

For this party, we would like to invite our entire listserve!!  This is the
first klezmer band performance almost on campus in many years!  Just walk in
the front door and go to the Dining Room.  Hopefully, you will hear the music!

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21 - 4-5 PM - MCCORMICK LOUNGE, COFFEY HALL

"HILLEL LATIN DANCE CLASS"

You can dance with Konstantin and Jane, and then go over to the
Devon/Sheridan Building to hear the Klezmer Band!

Konstantin and Jane's dance class is continuing on Wednesday's from 4-5.
There is so much enthusiasm for the class, they are now meeting weekly.

You do not have to have gone before.  They teach new dances each week!

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22 - 5:00 PM - HILLEL-MUNDELEIN CENTER, 2ND FLOOR

ISRAELI CINEMA ON A SOFA - "YOSSI AND JAGGER"

This award-winning film is based on a true story and portrays the relationship
between two male Israeli officers in a remote army base on the Israeli-Lebanese
border.  They are commanders, they are in love, and they try to find a place of
their own.  This 2002 film presents an ensemble of young Israeli men and women
struggling with their lives, their mandatory army service and a complicated
political situation.  They are young people trying to survive in what often
seems like an impossible world.

SATURDAY NIGHT, FEBRUARY 24 - 7:00 PM - GENTILE CENTER, SECTION D

"HAVDALLAH AT HALF-TIME!"

Hillel at Loyola invites you to support our Loyola Ramblers Basketball Team in
their first back-to-back winning season in 22 years!

This is the final home game of the year, and we will be sitting in Section D,
behind the Scorer's Table.

After the game, come back to Hillel and join us for Ice Cream Sundaes, S'Mores
