There are several important messages we would like to share as you begin
Spring Break.


BIRTHRIGHT REGISTRATION ENDS THIS MONDAY!!

Because of the overwhelming response, Birthright Registration for the
summer trips ends on Monday, March 5.

IF YOU WANT TO GO ON ONE OF THE SUMMER TRIPS, PLEASE REGISTER AND SUBMIT A
DEPOSIT BY THIS MONDAY.  GO TO www.shorashim.org TO REGISTER FOR ONE OF
THE HILLELS OF ILLINOIS TRIPS.

If your plans change, you will have a period of time in which to cancel
your registration and have your deposit refunded.  However, if you do not
register and submit a deposit by this Monday, you will likely not be able
to secure a space on a trip this summer.




HAPPY PURIM!  PURIM BEGINS THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, MARCH 3!

Purim is the festive Jewish holiday celebrating the deliverance of the
Jewish people from the tyrant, Haman, in the 5th century BCE in ancient
Persia.  The story is recorded in the Megillah (the Book of Esther), and
it is Queen Esther who saved the Jewish people.  Haman has become the
archetypical enemy of the Jewish people throughout the ages.  In addition
to hearing the Megillah read, the other customs of the holiday include
dressing up in costume, having a festive meal, giving tzedakah to the
needy and sending food gifts to friends.

Following are "student friendly" locations to celebrate Purim.

SATURDAY NIGHT, MARCH 3

FIEDLER NORTHWESTERN HILLEL - 7:30 PM

Because this year Purim falls during Northwestern's annual Dance Marathon,
Hillel is having the Megillah reading at Norris Center Student Union in
the Big 10 Room.  The Megillah reading will be followed by a Purim Party!


TANENBAUM CHABAD CENTER - 2014 ORRINGTON AVE., EVANSTON, IL 60201

Megillah Reading - 7:30 PM

Purim Party - 8:30 PM - Party features two bands - The Maxwell Street
Klezmer Band and Even Sh'siyah.


HERITAGE RUSSIAN JEWISH CONGREGATION - 2941 W. TOUHY, CHICAGO, IL 60645

Megillah Reading - 8:00 PM

Followed by Purim Party!
