[Hillel-at-Loyola] Shalom from Hillel

Hi,

This is the first Hillel at Loyola listserve message you have received since
Israel was attacked on two fronts and drawn into an ugly, unnecessary war that
it did not provoke and did not seek.  Hopefully, the United Nations resolution
is a step that will bring some kind of closure to this conflict and will lead
to the return of Israel's three kidnapped soldiers.  We mourn the loss of
innocents on all sides, and we hope and pray
that Israel will get the peace that is so much desires from its neighbors.

We have several resources for you relating to the conflict.  First - is a
special cross-campus program this TUESDAY about the current war, then an
opportunity to send chocolate for free to an Israeli soldier, then the national
Hillel on-line petition to the UN, then some resources for donating funds.
Finally, and not related to the war, is reminder information
about Loyola's new Modern Hebrew course and information about a beatbox show by
Hillel's favorite beatbox performer, Yuri Lane.

THE TRIALS OF WAR - TUESDAY, AUGUST 15 - 6-8 PM - WEINGER JCC, NORTHBROOK

Many of you have been watching the news and keeping up to date with the
crisis in the Middle East. News stories and events can be confusing, so we
are bringing you a program that will help answer your questions. For those
of you who went on a Birthright Trip to Israel, this is also a time that
you can reconnect with students from your group.

Besides meeting a lot of new people, we will have an "Israel Update" from
Wendy Keter, the Director of the Israel Aliyah Center in the Midwest.  She
will give us an Israeli perspective of what is happening now.

We will also have some really good informational handouts and, of course,
there will be a great Israeli dinner!  Before you come to campus, we hope
you take advantage of this opportunity.

*  Tuesday August 15th
*  6:00-8:00p.m.
*  Bernard Weinger JCC
*  300 Revere Dr. Northbrook, IL 60602
*  Dinner provided

Directions: Take the Edens Expressway to Lake Cook Road West.  After
passing over expressway, the 2nd stop light is Revere Dr.  Take a left
onto Revere Dr. (the street before Northbrook Ct.).  Revere Drive dead ends at
the JCC parking lot.

SEND CHOCOLATE TO AN ISRAELI SOLDIER FOR FREE

Next - is a link to send Israeli soldiers free chocolate and a message:

Here is a free and easy way to help our soldiers in Israel.

"Send Your Hug to the IDF" is a click away.  Send a soldier a message of
support, and he'll receive it along with a chocolate bar.

This is a free service being sponsored by Elite Chocolate Company of Israel and
Heritage Affinity Services.

Please take a minute and send your message.  It will mean so much to the
soldier who receives it.  Afterwards, forward this email to others.

TAKE HEBREW FOR CREDIT AT LOYOLA!!

After much effort, including a petition drive launched by Hillel at Loyola,
Modern Hebrew has returned to Loyola as a 3-credit class.  Now that the class
is being offered, we want to insure that it remains!

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn Hebrew from our outstanding Hebrew
instructor, Ms. Elana Daniel.

The meets Tuesday and Thursday from 1-2:15 PM in Damen Hall and can be found in
the course catalogue under HEBREW.

BEATBOXER YURI LANE IN A NEW SHOW!!

Hillel has brought Yuri Lane to Loyola in several different shows - "From
Tel-Aviv to Ramallah" and "Soundtrack City Chicago."  He is an amazing
beatboxer!!  This is information about his new show with an opportunity for a
free preview.

Making of Human Beat Box

Live Bait Theater
3914 N. Clark St
Chicago, IL

August 18-25
8:25 PM

International musical/theatrical sensation Yuri Lane believes each
person has an internal soundtrack. Through the art of the human
beatbox, the classically-trained Lane morphs into various characters,
generating a distinct soundtrack for each using nothing more than his
own body and limited only by his imagination. A uniquely urban way of
looking at the world!

PAY WHAT YOU CAN preview performance: Thursday, August 17 at 8:15 PM.

http://www.livebaittheater.org/tickets_buy_online.html.  Please call
773-871-1212 for reservations or go to www.ticketweb.com. Tickets are
$15 General Admission - $10 Students/Seniors.
