Very Full Hillel Week!

Shalom,

This week there is actually a Hillel program every day of the week!  We hope
those of you on the Hillel listserve will try to participate in at least one of
them.

All are described below, however there are two special "on-campus" programs we
would like to highlight.  WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31 at 5 PM in Hillel, Udi Krauss,
Israeli singer/songwriter, will perform at what we are calling "JAMMIN' WITH
JEWS."  And FRIDAY EVENING FEBRUARY 2 at 6 PM in preparation for the
Superbowl, we are having a BEARS SHABBAT DINNER.

Details for all of this week's programs follow:

MONDAY, JANUARY 29 - 12:30-1:30 PM - HILLEL
"LUNCH 'N LEARN" WITH RABBI DRUTMAN

Rabbi Zev Drutman will lead a discussion of the Torah portion of the week. This
week it is "Beshallach," the Torah portion describing the crossing of the Red
Sea.

Rabbi Drutman is a wonderful teacher.  And he will do a Torah portion
discussion again in February and again in March.  Tomorrow we will have bagels
and cream cheese for lunch.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 30 - 4:30-5:30 PM - HILLEL
"PIZZA DINNER BEFORE IDAN RAICHEL CONCERT AT HOUSE OF BLUES"

Whether you are going to the 8 PM concert or not, you are welcome to join us
for pizza!  For those who bought the student discount tickets, you will be able
to pick them up at a special Hillel table set up inside the House of Blues
entrance starting at 6 PM.  For those who want to go and do not have tickets,
there may be $26.50 student tickets left.  But you have to buy
them in person with a student ID.  $35 tickets are available for purchase
on-line or in person.  Students will leave Hillel around 5:30 PM to take the
Red Line to the concert.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 31 - 5 PM - HILLEL
"JAMMIN' WITH JEWS!" - PERFORMANCE/DISCUSSION WITH UDI KRAUSS

Udi Krauss, Israeli singer/songwriter, is visiting Chicago and paying a special
visit to Hillel at Loyola.  Udi works with Shorashim, the organization that
sends Illinois students on their Birthright trips.  He is a guitarist and will
play his own music and that of other Israeli composers.  He will also weave
into his performance a discussion of how life and events in Israel impact
Israel's contemporary music scene.

We will be serving a falafel dinner.

Udi's visit and our dinner is being supported by the JCRC Israel
Initiative on Illinois Campuses.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1 - 11 AM-1 PM - STUDENT UNION LOBBY
"WINTER ORGANIZATION FAIR!"

Stop by Hillel's table at this semester's Organization Fair!  Hillel will be
distributing a special giveaway.  It may not cause as much attention as our
"Moses Is My Homeboy" shot glasses...., that we gave away during the Fall
Organization Fair, but we think what we are distributing on Thursday is a
really fun treat for the winter.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2 - 6 PM - CARDINAL'S SUITE, MUNDELEIN CENTER-1ST FLOOR
"BEARS SHABBAT DINNER!"

This will be  a "not-so-traditional" kosher Shabbat "tailgating" dinner. The
food will have the flavor of a tailgating party in the Soldier's Field Parking
Lot with all the special additions of a Shabbat Dinner.

Our BEARS SHABBAT DINNER is definitely a Hillel at Loyola first, and it is our
way of wishing the Bears good luck on Sunday at the Superbowl.

We hope you can join us on Friday.  Either email Patti Ray at pray@luc.edu or
sign up in Hillel.  The dinner is free, but we would like to know who is
coming.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK!  GO BEARS!
