[Hillel-at-Loyola] Hillel Social Justice Mini-Tour

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 4 - NOON-3:30 PM - HILLEL SOCIAL JUSTICE MINI-TOUR

Join Hillel Director, Patti Ray, and Brett Cohen, Loyola Jewish United Fund
Committee Member, and students from Chicago area universities on a special
afternoon tour of 3 remarkable area organizations that are funded by the JUF.
We will travel by bus and begin at and return to the Response Center located in
Skokie at 9304 Skokie Boulevard in the strip mall where Bagel Country is.  The
mall is at the intersection of Skokie Boulevard and Gross Point Road, and the
Response Center is above Edwardo's Pizza.  You will be able to park your car in
the lot there.

To show how important these services are, the tour is on a weekday, so you
can see these facilities in action.  We thought winter break would be a
good time, because we have a lot less on our plates.  It is also an
opportunity to demonstrate that Loyola students care about social
justice and can work that concern into our vacation schedules.

We will begin with lunch at the Response Center, located in Skokie, which
offers counseling, education, outreach, prevention and medical services to
teens and their families.  Next we will travel to The Ark, located in
Rogers Park, which, as its name implies, is an oasis of help to care for
the physical, emotional, social and spirtual well-being of Chicago's
Jewish needy.  Finally, we will visit the Pregnant and Parenting Group Home in
Rogers Park.  This is a project of the Jewish Children's Bureau, which provides
housing, care and education for pregnant teen mothers and their newborns.

This special tour has been arranged in order to put a "human face" to some of
the important social justice organizations of the Jewish community.  We hope
you will take an afternoon out of your winter vacation to join us in learning
about these organizations and showing them that we care about the valuable work
they do.

Please e-mail Brett Cohen at bcohen4@luc.edu if you can join us.  Also, let him
know if you need transportation to and from the Response Center.
