Hillel This Week/Yom Kippur

Shalom,

We hope you had a very good beginning to the New Year 5768!

Hillel has a very diverse set of programs this week. We hope you will find one that you like! At the end of the message is information about Yom Kippur services in the area and our Hillel Break-the-Fast, which will be on Saturday night, September 22 at 7:45 PM in Hillel. There is also a new job listing.

We hope you have a meaningful week between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. These days are known as the 10 Days of Repentence/Reflection. We also hope you have an easy fast on Yom Kippur.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 - MITZVAH OF THE MONTH - MEZZUZAH MAKING!

Hillel's Judaica Committee is trying something new this year - every month Hillel will have some hands-on program related to a mitzvah. The first mitzvah is about "mezzuzah."

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM - HILLEL - 201 MUNDELEIN CENTER - Rabbi Zev Drutman will discuss the laws of mezzuzah and how a mezzuzah is made.

4:00-6:00 PM - Hallway outside of Hillel - Danny Goldman, Hillel/Loyola alum, will reprise his famous mezzuzah making class of several years ago. We have the fimo clay, all you need to do is come with your creativity. For those who will put up their mezzuzahs, mezzuzah "clafs" (the parchment that makes a mezzuzah a mezzuzah) are being donated to Hillel. We will also have directions on how to put up your mezzuzah.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 - LIFE SCIENCES AUDITORIUM-142 QUINLAN - 4:00 PM

THE JEWISH VOICE IN LATIN CINEMA - "LOS GAUCHOS JUDIOS" (THE JEWISH COWBOYS)

In celebration of Latino Heritage Month, Hillel is sponsoring two Latin films with a Jewish theme - one in September and one in October. The first, on Tuesday, "Los Gauchos Judios," is a drama/comedy/musical telling of the story of the Jewish "cowboys" - the settlement of the first Jews to South America. Subtitles are in English. Marcela Brusa, Hillel Faculty Board Member and Instructor in Spanish, will introduce the film. There will be great kosher Latin refrehsments including a kosher taco bar!

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 - 10 AM-2 PM - DAMEN HALL LOBBY - FIRST HILLEL BAGEL SALE!

For those new to Loyola, you have to see a Hillel Bagel Sale to understand that it is really a big Hillel event! The bagels are fresh from Shalom Kosher Bakery in Buffalo Grove. The family of one of our students owns the bakery.
