Special Hillel Week

Shalom,

Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year 5768, begins this Wednesday evening, September 12 and goes through Friday, September 14.   Hillel at Loyola would like to wish you and your families a Sweet, Happy and Healthy New Year and a Year of Peace.

This email will let you know about Hillel's Apple/Honey Delivery, our special "Apples and Honey Table" Monday in the Student Union Lobby, Hillel's Rosh HaShanah Dinner and the area locations where you can attend Rosh HaShanah services.  These are free for all students.  At the end of the email is an announcement about a new Israeli movie.

DELIVER APPLE/HONEY GIFTS TO JEWISH FACULTY AND STAFF

Last week was very busy as students wrapped apple/honey packages for every Jewish faculty and staff member at the university.  If you would like to help deliver them, there are still locations at Lake Shore that need deliveries.  Water Tower and the Medical Center have been done.  Please stop by the "Apples and Honey Table" on Monday or Hillel on Tuesday to get a location and apples to deliver.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 - "THE APPLES & HONEY TABLE" - CENTENNIAL FORUM STUDENT UNION LOBBY - 10 AM-2 PM

A Hillel at Loyola 20-year tradition to mark a really sweet year!  We give out apples and honey, and also melt chocolate and caramel to dip the apples in as well.  We do this at a several-table display in the Student Union Lobby.  This is a great Hillel event!

Stop by for your New Year treat!  If you live at Mertz - all you have to do is come downstairs!!

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 - "ROSH HASHANAH DINNER" - CARDINAL'S SUITE, 1ST FLOOR-MUNDELEIN CTR. - 5 PM

This year is the first time we are having a Rosh HaShanah dinner on the campus.  This will be a traditional, kosher Rosh HaShanah dinner with matzo ball soup, chicken, kugel, great apple pies and more.  The dinner is free, but we would like to know if you are coming.  Either sign up in Hillel or email Patti Ray at pray@luc.edu.  The Cardinal's Suite is a beautiful room near the east end of the hallway on the First Floor of Mundelein Center.  There will be students leaving for services from the dinner.

AREA LOCATIONS FOR FREE ROSH HASHANAH SERVICES ARE LISTED BELOW.  ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS BRING YOUR STUDENT ID.  IF YOU WANT INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER LOCATIONS, PLEASE FIND PATTI RAY AT THE "APPLES AND HONEY TABLE" ON MONDAY OR HILLEL ON TUESDAY OR EMAIL HER AT pray@luc.edu.  NEXT WEEK WE WILL PROVIDE DETAILS FOR YOM KIPPUR SERVICES.  THIS YEAR YOM KIPPUR FALLS ON SHABBAT - FRIDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 21 AND SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22.

NEW ISRAELI FILM "THE BUBBLE" AT LANDMARK THEATER

A taste of Tel-Aviv comes to the Midwest in this story of three young Israelis, two guys and a girl, who share an apartment in Tel Aviv's hippest neighborhood. Trying to put aside political conflicts and focusing on their lives and loves, these progressive 20-somethings are often accused of living in a sort of escapist bubble.  But their good times are soon challenged by the harsh reality of the region's ongoing violence.

This film is directed and co-written by Eytan Fox, director of the award-winning Israeli movies  "Walk on Water" and " Yossi & Jagger."  "The Bubble" has swept awards at numerous recent film festivals.  It is being shown at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema, 2828 N Clark St.,(773) 509-4949.

HAPPY, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
